Should I stay or should I go?

Well- I just finished week 2 of classes. I haven't posted in a while because honestly I didn't think I was going to stay here in Shanghai. Every other day I am threatening to come home and leave this place. Anytime something is wrong the answer is always, "Well that's just how it is in China." We have one copier for the school which is broken everyday, my internet seems to work only between the hours of 3pm-4pm, my cell phone only works when I don't care if it does, and well the list goes on. Today I have decided to suck it up. Who knows about tomorrow.
On the other hand, my classes are great and my students are amazing, even though I can't pronounce any of their names. I have never worked somewhere where I say something and the students actually do it. I don't have to bribe them or anything. Although I did tell one girl that if she found me Diet Sprite I would give her an A. Is that legal? I haven't really explored much of Shanghai yet because I work until 12 or 1 am every night trying to prepare for the next day. It is really hard to stay ahead. But my favorite thing in China so far, no it's not the people spitting on me or wiping their boogers on me, it's "foot reflexology." Just about on every corner you can find a place to give you an hour foot message for about $5. I have been 9 times and have been here for 4 weeks. The first time I went I wondered what they could actually do to my feet for 30 minutes each. Now I wish I could just sit there for 5 hours. Ok my students are walking in. Guess I shouldn't be blogging while I am at work. Or should I? Maybe I could get fired???

Hey Darb,

Sorry that your first weeks have not been fabulous. We have been talking about how much we miss you. I am sure that things will get better. Keep doing that reflexology! That is sure to help.

Darby,

Sorry that Todd didn't get a chance to visit you while he was there, but I do know there will be more trips soon (so start your list of things you would like from Texas). I hope that you will get some more time to blog and please fill us in on the details...have you found a favorite food there? What about a good stiff drink?! Have you corrupted your kids yet? Hang in there and enjoy that reflexology...I am jealous like you don't know!

Darby -
Well at least you have a good sense of humor about it all. Why do you get spit on? Do they dislike Americans? I definitely think you should stay for awhile longer. I am sure that Chinese man is going to pop into your life soon :) Eat some chicken feet for Bill and I. Bryan, Jeremy and I missed you at lunch the other day.
